Transition question for a newby

I just received 3 backdrops, 1 city, 1 autumn mountain & 1 sky. My main problem is how to transition from city to sky. The city buildings just end abruptly.
What does the experienced railroaders say about this? My overall plan is to have a 4 X 16 platform with a train yard using the city on 1 end (probably 4 X 4) and the rest using the mt. & sky back drops behind rural tracks & buildings. All of this is in my head with no particular design from an existing train yard or landscape.

All comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated to include publications that I can learn by reading.

Very few cities end abruptly. Taller buildings in the city center taper down in height as you move. What I believe might work is but up the city next to the sky and place low relief shorter buildings against the sky. Transition from the shorter buildings to a few small ranchettes and then the wide open spaces. To go into the mountains, make a rolling foothill out of foam or other built-up material and place in front of sky with some scenic material shrubs giving way to trees and into the mountain.

On another guy's layout I am working on that is how we accomplished the transition.

You could always put up walls between the segments to delineate between each scene. Not everybody's cup of tea, but short of trying out some artistry to blend each backdrop together yourself, you can embrace the hard edge

I'm still working on the track layout and wiring. Then I'll start on the back drops. I think I was getting ahead of myself.
I do appreciate the replies and I'm certain I'll referring to them when the time comes.
