I bought a Walthers Trainline dash 8-40B off EBay & was needing a few questions answered. In the Brochure that came w/the engine it shows twin flywheels & that is in the engine, but it also shows driveshafts on both ends & mine only has it on the front end. I took the shell off & on the end w/out a shaft it only has free rolling wheels. It also has directional lighting & the engine runs real good.
This must be an old Walthers engine & only had a drive unit on 1 end, am I right?
Larry, I think you got cheated. I'm not aware of any Walthers Dash-8 that only had one driven truck. Unless someone else knows different, I'd write the guy and get a refund. It sounds like someone filtched some parts and didn't tell you about it.

I agree with Jim on this one. From my recollection they are all driven wheels front and rear truck.
I got one a few years ago,and it has drive to both trucks.I replaced the bodyshell on mine for a Rail Power Products one.

Hmmm you're sure it's a Walthers Trainline and not something else in a Walthers box?
I bought a nice Atlas C425 off ebay, turned out to be an AHM in an Atlas box instead.
I kept it as the fellow didn't know and offered me a refund, but it's a good looking loco with custom paint and I got it for a good price anyway.
I think half of those who sell on ebay no nothing about ho trains.most of the time if you read they buy them at estate sales garage sales etc.most of the time you can tell who and what is selling on ebay.
I've noticed you need to be careful on what you buy on eBay as far as train hobby items goes. I purchased a loco a long time back on eBay and it wasn't in great shape and from that point on I will not buy locos from eBay. I will buy detail parts, buildings, scenery items, or even kits but that's about it.

I contacted the seller & got my money back & kept the engine. It wasn't very much anyway. I've only got 3 bad items from EBay & I fixed 1 of them w/a motor I had in my junk stuff. I sold the other one for what I paid for it & he fixed it himself. I've got some real nice items from EBay w/little cost compared to my online hobby distributors & some train shows. Just lucky so far w/getting the bids at just the right time. I pretty much know the prices on everything that has to do w/HO. I think that's the key to a bid.
Also, I have a limit. I never go over the 50% price of retail if I want the item bad enough.
Some people just keep bidding on an item, no matter what the price goes to. I see people bidding 400% over retail on an item when all you have to do is buy it from a hobby shop for a much lower price. Especially vehicles that I buy from Walmart for 97 Cents & I see the starting bids about 500% over the WM buying price. I guess guys don't look in the toy dept. to see these items that they bid for on EBay.
I have to say if you do know the price you can get a deal on eBay but you have to keep your bid in check as you are correct Larry, the price goes well over retail often for used equipment. I don't understand why people pay for items like that when they can get them new for less. Don't forget the cost of shipping.

i agree on both counts knowing the price is half the battle on ebay.can"t believe what some people will pay just to win on ebay.
Know the seller.
Know the product.
Know the rules.
