So for the past century, for the most part, Lionel has made some of the most high-quality model railroading locomotives and accessories (aside from the 70's and 80's that is). They make amazing steam and diesel locomotives of yesterday and also a lot of great freight sets of today. But still, what trains are out there that are really cool that they haven't made yet? If I was them, I would try and move away from some of the extremely unrealistic ones such as the alien train and make some more contemporary passenger trains such as Amtrak's Cascades or even commuter trains like Metrolink along with expanding their subway lines to include light rail. Also I think Lionel could benefit from creating more accessories such as catenary systems and more options when it comes to station platforms. What do you guys think?

I agree with you completely. Now, even though I'm only 16, I love Lionel's 50's and 60's postwar line. Those were some of the best trains ever built. But now I've run some of their TMCC locomotives and seen the Legacy ones (like the 700e 5344) and I'm just blown away. But I personally think we're past the time when Lionel can just produce fun, conventional sets that parents would buy for their children. I was only hoocked buy trains because my dad was and he started the tradition of getting us each a train for Christmas. I never had a Lionel Ready-to-Run set. (But I did get the Pennsylvania flyer set eventually)

It's at the time now that Lionel should focus on more modern and realistic trains with TMCC that grown people would play with more than kids on Christmas morning.

It's a sad thing that the tradition of finding a shiny new Lionel train set under the Christmas Tree has gone away.
