Stop the press! ! ! St Louis Post Beating Up on the Railroads

Sorry to borrow against another thread's title but I couldn't resist :)

The local paper is running a series on the railroad and the first three articles seem a little rough in asking for a company or big government to protect my neighbors from the dangers of walking down railroad trestles or the track wearing earphones.

I DO believe these things need covered more. My take would be more to warn of the dangers and using the poor deceased as an example though, not to try to force the railroad to build fences or whatever.

If you wanna read and write the author or editor, here are some links:

its called natural selection, if they dont die on the right of way , their going to get hit by a car so, there is nothing to be done.
5 years ago 2 14 year old mensa canidates skipped school laid on the railroad track with headphones on , both girls woke up with missing limbs but they survivied.
the parents tried to sue the railroad but the judge laughed it out of court.

This is a problem with our society these days. Even though the person knows it's wrong, dangerous or illegal, some people think we should sheild them from their own stupidity.

If knowing in your mind that doing this could kill you or send you to prison, and that isn't enough to change your mind.... what can anyone else do?

With that said, i hate it that all of this happened, but at the end of the day that person made a mistake, and that is not anyone else but that persons fault.

It's like this gun control issue, it makes no sense. If i'm a killer and can't shoot you with a gun, i'll likely just do it in some likely more painful way such as beating you to death, what did that accomplish? You can't fight moral issues with more rules. If rules worked we wouldn't be in this fix in the first place....

Same argument as to why toasters have to have a warning not to use in bathtubs and what not.

I'm actually surprised that this hasn't been used against manufacturers as well...

"My _whoever_ would not have known she could use the toaster to commit suicide if you didn't put those stickers on the product."
