I have a Bachmann Spectrum C40-8 and an athearn SD-60. They are both in the paint shop to become the first HO scale Texas and Gulf Coast locomotives.

My question is: will they run together good? does anyone have any experience with a similar lash-up? or should I take a spare spectrum chassis and try to fit the SD-60 on it?

Thanks!!

unless you have DCC and can set each separately (i don't: pure variable old school DC), they may hate each other. My ancient Bachmann Spectrum C40-8 and even ancient-er Athearn SD40-2 work best with their own kind.....can't say anything about newer Athearns like the SD60, except that it sure is a good looker...

Why not try running them at the same time without being coupled together in both directions? If they run at about the same speed, you are set as is. Otherwise you may do as as Kenw says & run them as single units. This is based on DC operation. BTW -would the shell fit the other drive?

before the days of DCC I would only run athern with athern P2K with P2K etc...

they looked better when detail is the same.

if you put both engines on the track and they run fairly close to each other than it will be just fine. If one runs away from the other you need DCC to dial the faster one back.

I always put the unit that is a little faster up front to keep it from uncoupling in curves
