Specific Articulated Steamer

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Did the Virginian get their 2-10-10-2's from the AT&SF? if so, Westide did one in brass. Brasstrains.com has a nice 2-8-8-0 (ex triplex) available for a paltry nine bills ($900.00 :D) How deep are your pockets? You'll have to paint it BTW:eek:

You won''t find any in plastic. Not enough appeal. Most of these large articulateds were failures. it was really hard to get a large enough boiler and enough steam pressure to make them work. They just about all would up in drag freight service or helper service, and were scrapped before their time. Hope you've got some large radii, say 32-36" minimum, preferably 48"!

It was built for the VGN after their 2-8-8-8-4 triplexes from Baldwin failed to perform as hoped. (it was turned into a 2-8-8-0 and a 2-8-0).

AT&SF built their own 2-10-10-2 locomotives while Alco built the one's the Virginian RR. VRR's 808 pulled 110 120-ton 12 wheel coal cars, loaded, from Princeton, WV to Norfolk and only needed help getting started. Pretty powerful for their day.

I believe all of these are HO scale. Isn't this the N-scale forum?

It is, but many folks browse the forums using "new threads" and don't notice that they're in a forum for a specific scale. Sometimes it's handy to put the scale in the title, even though it's a bit redundant.

And, as I've often pleaded for in the past, put your scale in your sig line. Saves a lot of needless questions and people trying to help going down dead end streets.

Yes, I missed that, however, the facts remain the same with one change: No plastic models available, and no brass either( at least that I am aware of). If you want this model, you'll need a couple of 2-10-2's some scratchbuilding supplies and lots of time, or a pocket full of cash to commission someone with the necessary talents to do it for you!
