I am woirking on an Athearn SW1500 SP Kodachrome. SP 2575. Cant find a good pic as to the color of the grabs handles going onto the loco hood.
I think they were red but its hard to tell? Sometimes the sides grabs look yellow and the top black. Then I find a pic and they looked red. The top of the Athearn cab is black but then I find a pic and the real loco was red. A great roof shot would help.
Any one have some better pics then what I have found rrpics and rrarchives?
Yup thats the one. Yours looks great. Would you agree the roof is red and in the 2nd pic the side hangles are yellow? I also noticed the "F" is diffrent in a few pics I have seen of the real one. Where did you get the cab arm rests? Do you have a front and back pic of yours?
Chad, I'd say the top ones are SP scarlet red, and the side ones down the hood are yellow. The "F" is the SP style font. The cab armrests are Detail Associates 36" armrests.
The Fs are diffrent on the same loco. I would assume it was only painted one time in those colors but each photo has a diffrent F. Maybe they ran out of decals and used what they had?
The tops of the cabs were black, which quickly weathered to kind of chalky grey. I don't know what was different about the cab roof, maybe the angle and drainage, but the black paint weathered much faster that the black paint on the hood.
