Southern #4501 in HO - TCS WOW Steam

I got a Bachmann Mikado (#4501) for Christmas and finally today got DCC installed in it. I went for a TCS WOW Steam decoder with no keep-alive. I have been VERY pleased with the sound on this decoder; I think I will be going for TCS on my other steam locos!

That video is a brief demo; pardon the shaky camera.

Nice locomotive. I think mikes are my favorite steamers and they are the largest locomotives that I run on my layout, along with consolidations and other small steamers. I recently purchased a BLI heavy mike (Southern RY) and the detail is excellent.

I only run DC, no DCC but with not having control of the sound, it is nice and the slow speed control is excellent. It would be nice to be able to control the different sounds but I am not at all interested in DCC. Will have to reletter it for my freelance railroad.

Thanks for posting. Sound is impressive.

Honestly if I'd had the time/money, I probably would've bought a BLI Southern Mikado in black and repainted it. The detail is quite excellent on those. However ModelTrainStuff had the Bachmann Mikado (already in the right paint scheme, no work needed) on sale for a VERY reasonable price. After I got that, I searched around and listened to several decoders, and the TCS seemed to best immitate the real thing (I'm fortunate enough to have seen #4501 in real life, so I was picky about the sound on it) If I do #630 I might try the BLI version, wish they could get the darn headlight right.
