I just solved a problem I had with a heavy duty 4-truck flat car and decided to post it here in case someone else is experiencing the same thing.

It's an Athearn car with steel wheels and Kadees and properly weighted. I have several of these and only this one was giving me this problem.

Every once in a while the same set of inside trucks would derail without causing a derailment. It would go on it's merry way and only when I looked closely would I notice that that set of trucks was derailed.

I checked to make sure that all trucks swiveled freely. I checked and rechecked the weight. No problems there.

On a hunch, I added a washer to that set of trucks to make it press down a little harder on the tracks.

Presto!! Problem solved.;)

actually i have a golden west service car that partially derails on almost every turnout. i think i might employ your technique to see if it settles down, so to speak. thanks for posting the solution. :)
