A few years back, I was helping a friend build the benchwork for his layout. He had an interior aisle around a peninsula where he planned to install a roundhouse. He didn't want hard corners on the peninsula as they would make it tight for 2 operators to be in the same area. I proposed a semi-circular end to the peninsula to eliminate the hard corners.
Using my tablesaw, I cut kerfs on 1/4" spacing, 3/8" deep once I calculated the length of the half circle. I used the same technique on the opposite corner leaving the last corner square where it would attach to the remainder of the benchwork. I've attached photos showing the construction and the finished product. The rounded corners helped a great deal once operations on the railroad started.
