So far this is what I understand-

For a DCC sysem it is recommended that wires connected to track be 14, 16 or maybe 18 gage.

Wires should be soldered to tracks at least every 6 feet - some say every track.

Questions:
Isn't 14 gauge too thick-it's as high as the rail?
Do I solder to the track or the connectors that link the tracks?
Am I correct in that if it is soldered to the track it basically lies parallel along the outside of the track?

Your views/guidance are appreciated.

14 guage is the buss wire, you solder what they call a feeder wire which is like 22 guage to the buss wire on one end then solder the other end of the feeder wire to the track. As far as the distance of feeder wires I placed mine about every 3-5 ft. I've checked my track all the way around and it has good signal. I don't solder my track pieces together because I don't feel it's necessary, some people will tell you it is which is just personal preference there.

I lay the track first to make sure I like all of my curves. The longest distance for my feeder wires is like 10 inches I think. Have you looked at the website www.wiringfordcc.com?? It's a pretty good reference site for what your needing answers to.
