Soaking Cork Before Laying Ballast?

My friend told me today that he soaks the cork before laying ballast. Is this really needed? Do you guys soak the cork before laying the ballast? If so please share your method of soaking the cork.

I don't, and I sure never heard of soaking it. Can't see what his point would be. Perhaps someone else has heard of it and cal tell us the purpose of doing so. I spread the ballast in place, then wet it using a spray bottle then dribble a diluted glue mixture seems to work best for me.

Sorry just discovered a point. If the cork is VERY DRY with the possibility of the cork being brittle and cracking when bent to a sharp curve, then a dip in the water won't hurt anything. Found this out today when removing cork roadbed from a very old module.
