I believe there are 2 types used - Large and small. My question is are they available and where from. I have a couple of Aristo Craft GP40's that I would like to add them to.
Gabby, there are dozens of different snow plows made today. What scale are we talking?? What railroad are you modeling?? Do you have any prototype pictures of their GP40's??
True, but that still leaves us with the other questions that Jerome asked unanswered. What prototype railroad, what is the definition of large and small plows, and what GP-40 specifically is Gabby trying to model? Even on the same road, the UP being a good example, there were at least four different types of pilot plows in common use. This doesn't count real plows like wedge plows and such. Some questions just lead to more questions.
Thanks gang. Sorry for any confusion. I was after the ones that go on the front of the GP40 or SD45's. The diesels themselves are G scale Aristo Craft and are Union Pacific. I hope that assists. I don't have any photos of them either to help me.
Unfortunately, the plow that Josh referred to is not even in production yet. There's another one, part #60502 for the U25B, that should be fairly close to the low style of pilot plow that was used on the UP but that one seems to out of stock everywhere I've checked also. The only other plows I can find are for Rio Grande narrow gauge steam engines, which are not even clost to a diesel plow. It looks like you'll have to roll your own for this one.
