Good evening All. I'm a new member here on the forum and will probably ask quite a few questions in constructing an HO scale layout for my Grandson as I see there have quite a few changes in the HO hobby since I last worked on it.
When I was maybe 10 years old I bought my first HO scale train and started with a layout published in The Boy's Life Magazine back in the 50's so that ought to tell you how long it's been since I've done any Train Layout construction. I ventured into many other hobbies through the years and am currently a furniture designer and woodworker but kept the original Lionel HO set I bought and recently revisited the idea of building it for my Grandson. As the process goes I've run into many different obstacles in design but have been able to improvise or learn from these forums.
I'm in the process of designing the wiring I plan to of course to add crossing gates at road crossings and signal lights at various track locations. I'm wondering if there are items or provisions available to have the oncoming train signal the crossing lights to come on at the appropriate time and off when the train passes the crossing or gate.
I've got several catalogs, Walthers for one, and seem to be lost in what I'll need to accomplish this.
Any help would be welcome for this old timer,
Thanks ,
Smitty
PS.
Sorry for the long post, I seem to get long winded on occasions;)

Thanks for the reply Trent, that will get me in the right direction. Those are great links and I don't think I should have any problems configuring the wiring, I was thinking a photo cell with a small relay at first which is what one of the links provides.
Thanks for the info ,
Have a Good One,
Smitty

no Prob

I have used the logic rail train control signals and they use photo cells. they work great in most lighting.
