The Fox Valley Railroad
OK no groaning! It may not be state of the art but I KNOW most of us started out with it whether we had HO, American Flyer, Lionel or whatever. And I bet many of us still have some on our layout. I think they can be an inexpensive starting point and a nostalgic trip. Here's four of mine to start it out. The Cape Code House turned into a beach house. The chicken coupe into a Farm Stand, The factory with it's too small water tower turned into well what are those things? And the freight station fixed up. I've got more. Let's see yours.

Talk about a trip down memory lane! I had the freight station when I was about 8 or 9 years old. That, and the "House Under Construction". I'm 57 now so in model years they would be getting close to be on the National Historic Register of Model Places!

Nice buildings and layout! I'm collecting N scale junk for the eventual junkyard in my empire. Random junk, rusty junk, and special industrial junk.

Mike

Bob, Hey I had them both too at about that age and guess what? I'm 57 too! So I've got them again. I've been picking most of them up used at train shows but got a few new ones. My plan is at some point to build a scene where the trains will run through Plasticville as I would have pictured as a kid. So far I fixing some up and adding them to the current layout. Others I'm working on but have no place for.

Mike- Thanks a lot. Much of the junk in those pictures came from the same train show where someone was dumping detail sets cheap.

You might be surprised at how many buildings on layouts started a Plasticville kits and then were kit bashed into what the owner wanted. They were and are still a good starting point.

Jim - Exactly my point! Now let's see them. OK I'll show off some more of mine. You say Bachmann 'Spectrum Cityscenes' don't count? I agree, but the long shed on top of the Sears Store is one of the Plasticville farm buildings set. The Colonial House found a home mostly buried into a hilllside. Another shot of the cape code beach house and the farm stand along with the chicken coup. The gazebo was a $ Store Christmas item.

:(No takers? Come on I know you guys have some Plasticville. N scale? Hi-Rail? Let see it!

Heres my church. My dad used to have one he used on his annual Christmas village, so when I saw this kit at Hobbytown, I had to get it. Most of my buildings are Atlas and DPM.

Thanks for standing up and being counted Lionel Fan. I see there was a similar thread on Model Railroader's forum recently and even they got more response.

Do Bachmann's el cheapo N scale buildings count as plasticville? Got a couple of those. :)

I know they did copy some the HO stuff in N but I don't know if they did others. I wonder what the last new building Bachmann marketed as Plasticville was in any scale. In my mind if it don't have those big snap together tabs, it's not Plasticville.

Midnight's firehouse is not Plasticville. It might have been a Boley prefab model. Not sure.

A favorite of mine is the Plasticville Tower, + also the signal bridge.

The N scale Bachmann houses are quite good for forcing perspective.

Yes two of my favorites also.

Since Plasticville is sometimes oddly scaled, I have found some of the large scale stuff usable in HO. Here is the Court House which is designed after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. After doing the math I find the real thing is still three times as tall in HO. I did add some details and changed out the doors and windows. The other is the TV station. I just changed the door and added the signs. I still need to blend it into the area
