Serendipitous

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

There's a kid who comes by my classroom, initially to visit another student. This kid is not one of my students. She's extremely polite and well-mannered. She has repeatedly offered to help with classroom chores. I took a liking to her charming personality. I did in fact indulge her offer to help, mostly because I wanted to avoid hurting her feelings. After a couple days of "visiting" she saw an actual photograph of the authentic ATSF 3751 pulling passenger cars that is my computer's wallpaper. She told me her dad is an engineer with BNSF, and that he has actually engineered his railroad's steam locomotive as recently as Christmas '08. Well, I do not think that BNSF has another functioning steam locomotive, so I'm guessing it's 3751.

To truncate my account of good fortune, she told her dad I am a model railroad hobbyist. According to her, he's agreed to assist me. Now how could I have been more fortunate? In fact, I'm considering asking him to speak to my class about the history and influence of railroading on America. I'll let you know what transpires. Who knows, maybe I might be able to get a much closer look at 3751!!!

Happy Railroading,

Tom

And all because you were kind and paid attention to a little girl. People are what make our lives for us.

Good for you Tom, that's pretty cool. Hopefully you will get to see 3751 up close and personal. Good Karma.

You'd be surprised at how many of us music teachers love trains and modeling. The famous orchestra conductor and composer David Rose was an avid train enthusiast.

Maybe being creative enough to be a musician carries over into the creativeness of model railroads? I'm certainly not a very good example since my one year of piano lessons was enough for me. :) That's a nice thing you did, Tom. I have a few teachers that I remember fondly because they were kind to me and took an interest in my development when I was young.
