I finally found some sculptamold at a local crafts store so I am about to try it out on my practice layout. My plan is to use it over the plaster paper mountains and to fill in around my plaster of paris rock molds. What mixture do you guys use? I was thinking 2 parts water to 1 part sculptamold.

Like concrete I mix it to suit my needs. A thicker mix will hold it's shape better. A thinner mix will smooth easier. Btw, I also mix in some dirt-colored latex
paint to toughen it and make the color go all the way thru.

Find a local industrial insulation supply house and buy "insulating cement". Some names are "Smooth Coat", "Delta High Temp" or "One Shot". It will cost you about $10 for 50 pounds worth............which equals about $250 worth of sculptamold. AT one time I thought about repackaging it and selling it but that would take too much time away from the layout.

It's used basicall the same way just use a rubber glove and mix, it sucks the moisture out of your hands. I use it for everything from roads to rock cliffs to scenery hard shell covering and it paints and stains well once dry.

While you're there, you can pick up hydrocal B-11 in 50-60 pound bags for about the same price. It's used to bind cal-sil pipe covering elbows together.

( you're welcome !! )

I mix it to the point that it is like potato soup. not chunky but a little thick. this will help it dry faster but it needs to be applied faster as it ries alot quicker than a watery mix.

Look at this pic I made all those rocks and retaining walls with this stuff. I really like to use it for making molds and roads.

I have found Sculptamold (altho it was a awhile back...) at Hobby Lobby and Michael's.
