Hello all, very new to the hobby and am intrigued by the intermodal NS line that runs through my area in central KY. Can anyone recommend a metal well/container car and tell me where to get them? I find many plastic options, but feel that metal would be more reliable and higher quality. Looking forward to your input!

Assuming you are referring to HO scale, Kato, and walthers is the only 53' well car that is metal. They are semi hard to come by especially the TTX version. There are a few ebayers and internet sites that have some listed. Most others are plastic. I have both plastic and metal, I have special containers marked that are weighted and sit in the bottom to bring them up to standard.
