HI all, I have a old roco fa diesel, that runs pretty well for being i dont know how old? I was going to hard wire it for DCC but not sure if i should re-motor it first? I dont know if roco motors are good quality etc. The motor itself is kinda encased ina metal cylandir? any info. will be great.

Thanks G

At the time these were produced, the motor was one of the most powerful can motors that had ever been placed into a model loco. The same motor powered all of the Model Power locos made by Roco. The conversion is very easy and as long as the motor still runs well, there is no need to replace it. I would however do a stall test with a meter to ensure that the motor still is a low amp, (less than 1 amp), motor.

thank you very much for the info. that really good to hear. I was thinking of trying to clean up or tune-up the roco engine since its a good motor. Any ideas on how to get to the motor since its ina metal cylandir, before I clumsily break something since ive never seen these motors? thanks again G

Don't take it apart, or you'll ruin the magnets, and the motor. Just lightly oil the bearings on the ends. That should be enough.
