I travel the California highway 62 fairly frequently. I have been intrigued for some years by the several dozen, unmarked, some black and some white, railroad tank cars parked at and near to Rice California. In fact there are another bunch which can be seen in the distance, north west of rice??
The history of Rice is quite interesting, but that is another story.
Some think that the cars are in fact, part of the national oil storage network. I think they are there because it's as good a place as anywhere to store empty tankers. I don't believe that oil would be left out there unattended.
If you go into Google Earth you can make out the cars, although not too clearly.
Anyone have any input??
