When you wire an electrical bus under your layout there are actually two bus wires, right? One positive and one negative (or one for each of the rails)

Correct! Just be sure not to allow the ends to touch.
If you can use two colors of wire, one for each rail. Same for the drop feeders.
Also write down which color is outer rail and which is inner rail, it will make things so much easier when troubleshooting!
Electrical supply houses, as well as Home depot sell little booklets with numbers and letters in them that you can wrap around your wires. Eventually things can get pretty congested under there and the adhesive code letters really help keep your mind clear if you attach them at appropriate locations..
