Hello,

Do Intermountain HO kits, in particular their covered hopper kits, come with metal wheels? And in general, is their quality as nice as their RTR line?

Thanks,

Brad

Depends on the age of the kit. Older ones (like most all of mine) had plastic wheel sets.

I don't believe they are doing much with kits these days, but the RTR line is the same as the kits, just assembleed with Chinese labor, so the detail level will be the same, except for a few minor differences, like a small piece of chain on the brake rigging, for example.

So what your saying is that they might be put together better if I save the $10 and assemble it myself? :D

Thanks for the answer.

I'm not sure that you can get painted and lettered cars as kits, but Intermountain still does undecorated cars as full kits.

Not at all. I have bought mostly reefers, 40 ft boxcars, some flats, tanks and other transition era stuff from them. I never had a quality problem, ever, though I'm sure that like all manufacturers these days, they've had a few.
