I am not usually concerned about how prototypical something is on my pike. So, when I was changing wheelsets, I simply threw them in to an empty gondola. Hadn't thought about what kind of load to add so I could increase the weight. Didn't look bad, so it's good for a while.
Low and behold, I see a real gondola full of real wheelsets rolling by the office. Mine aren't rusty, but it's legit.
