A sound question for the experts ... ;)

My only sound-equipped tender is my Lionel Trainsounds tender (O scale) so I don't know what the differences are between the different systems. I've spent a lot of time on youtube where I can actually get to listen to the different systems.

Right now I only have two Lionel CW-80 (80 watt) transformers / controllers.

Does anyone know if the sounds of an MTH General (O scale) equipped with Protosounds (or any other non-Lionel train equipped with sounds) would be able to be controlled with a CW-80 transformer? I'll assume that the train itself would be able to be controlled by it, but I'm curious about the sound aspect.

Thanks!
