I have an Athearn BB SD40-2 loco that I would like to incorporate into a consist with 2 new Paragon2 locos. It's like trying to mix oil and water. Are there any suggestions from the DCC gurus to stop me from going to hell with this exercise?

From the title, it sounds like you're trying to speed match a DC loco with DCC locos. But if the Paragon 2's are DCC, and you're running them on DC, they will start up at a higher speed setting on the throttle simply because of the sound unit installed. It gets the power first. If this is the case, the Paragon's won't match well at all to any other DC loco, not just the BB. You could experiment with installing a resistor into the Athearn, to better match the starting speeds, but otherwise I don't a way.
