HO all the way!
I am in the process of superdetailing 2 of these units from the shell/chassis kits as they came. What is the best set up for powering these? I have been thinking a complete Athearn drive set from an Athearn U30C will work, but not sure. The price for what they want for a new set up specific to these units ($65) is to much in my mind. I am lookin at an Athearn Genesis SD70 now that I thought I could use the motor and drive shafts out of..what do ya all think??

Go with overland! (if you can find it.) Have you thought of trying to get your hands on the Atlas drives? You could use their new C40 drive, or make an older U33C drive work, perhaps?

RPP products were designed for using the Athearn BB drive trains. So that U30C would work for you.
I would recommend swapping out the Athearn motor for the A-Line repower kit.

Hmmm...that looks like a good idea, I will keep that on my watch list. I just got a good deal on 4 Athearn power trucks from a U30C that I think I will use as dummies. Got em for $20!! There is a guy who is selling the new Athearn hex drive motors with flywheels, long driveshafts, worm gears and the clip on DCC ready circuit board for $25. Is that a good deal and will it get me better performance then the stock BB drives??
