Playing around with SCARM

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

And I tried adapting Ian Rice's 'Mount Galena Mines Railroad' into something that would work with modern rolling stock on sectional track (while still being all on 1 sheet of 4x8 plywood).

The 3D view of SCARM really helps visualize how a plan is going to look when executed and so far the idea of the creatively-cut sacred sheet works out well. I also love the gumstump (http://carendt.us/scrapbook/page38a/index.html) and thought about trying to work it in.

Or that may make the top end of the plan look way too crowded. Ian Rice's plan has a few more sidings than mine. Even without the two tracks for the quarry at the end of the line I've planned spots and the interchange for about 8 50' cars so there theoretically shouldn't be any inadequacy, especially with the long line.

I guess I'm just asking for opinions here. What do you guys think so far? At this point, if I do build a layout, it will be something like this. I've had two unfulfilling experiences with tables and the garage is unsuited for any kind of around-the-walls (not to mention space needs to be saved for my RX7).
