Platte Valley & Western Model Railroad Club announces Fall 2008 Open House & Operations Schedule

Denver, Colorado, August 4, 2008 - The Platte Valley & Western Model Railroad Club (PV&WMRC) located in the basement of Denver’s Union Station at 17th Street & Wynkoop in the LoDo section of downtown Denver announces its Fall 2008 Open House and Operations Schedule.

A room that was used in the 1900s as the historic station’s jail has been remodeled to house two HO gauge railroads depicting Rocky Mountain railroading in the 1950s. The Platte Valley & Western Railroad’s Rocky Mountain Division (Route of the Flying Buffalo) spans more than 1200 feet of mainline track traveling thru eight communities in the Rocky Mountains from the City of Platte to Ogden, Utah. The Central City & San Juan HOn3 Narrow Gauge Railroad serves three Rocky Mountain communities and illustrates the differences between standard gauge and narrow gauge railroading.

Monthly Open Houses are scheduled for the last Friday of every month from 7pm to 9pm. The September Open House is September 26th and will feature Steam Engines of the 1950s. Open house dates for October 2008 thru December 2008 are posted on the club’s website (www.PVWRR.org/. Additionally, starting September 5th, the railroad will be open to visitors every Friday from 7pm to 9pm. Various other activities are scheduled for non-open house Fridays. Check the club’s website for a full schedule of dates and activities.

Through the generosity of Mizell Trains in Westminster, the PV&WMRC introduces the PV&W Kids Wooden Railway. The PV&W Kids Wooden Railway will be available on select Open House Nights beginning September 26th. Children are invited to bring their own wooden railway rolling stock & locomotives or they can use club owned equipment. A schedule of operations dates for the PV&W Kids Wooden Railway can be found on the club’s website (www.PVWRR.org/.

The club maintains a relaxed atmosphere, and new members are always welcome. The members of the PV&WMRC are always happy to answer questions, demonstrate techniques and provide guidance to beginners in the hobby. In addition to building, maintaining and operating the railroads, the Club also actively participates in the twice yearly Great Train Expo and other railroading related activities.

Riverotter- yep worked fine for me too. It looks like you guys are doing a super job on the railroad. We plan to travel (by train, naturally) to Denver next summer from the midwest with the grandkids. I definitely plan to stop by and see the layout in person.
