I've never had enough real estate to fit one in, you practically have to plan a big section of the layout around it.Thanks y'all
basic plan here is for a little peckerwood sawmill and box & crate factory, etc with rr shops
when the FSM kits originally came out I was into N scale and brick & mortar (plastic) stuff
yep, there's those castings - gettin' my money's worth out of that opti-visor...![]()
Nice work, does it say in the instructions what kind of footprint the kit needs?Built a lot of kits over the years, but this is my first FSM kit - Logging Repair Shed

it's sort of the big section without the layout..I've never had enough real estate to fit one in, you practically have to plan a big section of the layout around it.
I didn't see anything specific in the instructions as to footprint. working on the roof and putting the wall panels together this weekend - according to the instructions, you put them together, make an outline of the bottom of the walls and build the floor up from that.Nice work, does it say in the instructions what kind of footprint the kit needs?
Like the guy said in Jaws "You're going to need a bigger boat"I've never had enough real estate to fit one in,
I have to disagree, I think it looks very good! It breaks up the sky exactly as you said and gives an appearance of more depth. As the photo shows the painted "trees" don't look good (at all)
There is a fellow in Quebec who posts youtube videos of repairing and refurbing model locomotives - his website is watchtrainsnow.com , you will no doubt find a link to his youtube channel there. I remember seeing one of his videos where he ran across the cracked gears, he cleaned the gears with IP and then used super glue and a clothes poin for a clamp to repair the gear, then ran a drill bit through the gear centre to open it out again in case of any glue squeeze out - it worked like a charm.Nice look group of engines. Did you need to change the gears on the Bachmann Climax? I have on and the gears went out in 2 months...now it is a static display in my engine house. My the engine crew can change the gears. The Bachmann Shay also looked good to me; but it too suffered from the cheap plastic gearing
That’s looking great!Made some decent progress on the logging repair shed. Some prelim photos on the layout. Nothing permanent yet. Still have to add interior details. This kit may be 50 years old but it has been an absolute joy to build! View attachment 198277
Len, I went to his website, and I couldn't find anything on replacing or repairing Bachmann gears, so my Climax is still waiting patiently at the water tank for fresh waterThere is a fellow in Quebec who posts youtube videos of repairing and refurbing model locomotives - his website is watchtrainsnow.com , you will no doubt find a link to his youtube channel there. Looks fine to me, only thing I would do would be to add some similar colored leaves to a few of the static trees close to the backdrop of the painted trees to trick the eye moreThats something I should do. I painted a background just blue with white "haze" and then used a sponge to paint "tree like" background scene. It works ok, but I like your idea better. Photos will look better as well. As the photo shows the painted "trees" don't look good (at all) but it's better than sky all the way down to the ground.
