I picked up a Pikestuff Small Enginehouse kit (541-5000) and will knock it up this weekend, but I have a question in regards to the dimensions of the enginehouse door.
Can anyone shed some light on what would the typical width of an enginehouse door to allow clearance for a loco? Was/is there a standard width? I'm thinking there needs to be at least enough room for a person to comfortable walk through. Height is no problem as that is marked on the back of the molded wall panel.
ive seen pictures of engine houses both ways, wide doors and ones that are just big enough for the engine. i dont think that the one in the picture would be for doing anything but a place to park, and some minor service work. just pull it in and shut the door.

Yes, very fair point. I was considering making the door wider than in the picture.", perhaps another 1/4 more towards the centre and reposition the small access door.
one issue I had was that the overhead clearance was a bit short for anything taller. I use mine for a business and getting a 40' HiCube inside wasn't going to happen.
One day I noticed that a prototype building similar to this had a thick concrete slab foundation and realized that by adding a 1/2" tall Evergreen strip around the edge would raise the building sufficiently and look like a foundation (you'll need steps for the door!)you could add someinside along the tracks to be the dock's edge inside, but the way mine is situated it wasn't needed.
