Thank you Little Foot! Im glad to be here.. I have been in RC my whole life, just never really got into trains...It seems like it will be fun....I will post more pics of my build as I go along...I think I messed up my track though :( The instructions on the ballast didnt work with me too well.....

I would say a good deal indeed!
I love those Life-Like trackside shanties. I've used sevral sets on my layout. Dirt cheap and you adapt them to all sorts of small buildings. I have them in backyards and on the roofs of larger buildings, even a boathouse!
Good luck with the layout.

yes, you did well, but in the future

:)when i first started purshasing MR equipment i made MANY mistakes
1) decide what type of track you want to use
nickle silver would in my mind be a must
2) decide what code to use / 83 or 100
3) figure if you want to use DC or DCC
4) try to find a layout to fit your "room" accomoditions
5) build your "benchwork" to fit you now AND IN THE YEARS TO COME
(my minimum width is 4' and against a wall on the one side and I can only
reach about 3' and still keep my feet on the ground) I built this 20 some
years ago and am now 63 with some of that old age soaking into my body
6) buy GOOD engines and rolling stock / stuff that you won't have to throw
away in a couple of weeks
7) stick with couplers that have been proven to be the "choice" of others
8) don't make your grades (if you are using) more than 2%
9) 100 more "if and dont's" in this hobby / do searches on the internet about
product info / join as many forums as possible / if you have a good local
hobby shop, rely on them for info / figure what "time era" you want to do /
remember your "radius" when laying track / think about ballast / backdrop
and 5000 other things and
10) THIS IS A HOBBY
have a great MRR day

You did alright. The locomotives are junk and the freightcars aren't much better, but even without those items you still did good. Find some good deals on proto 2000 locomotives and trainman freightcars and you'll have some worthwhile rolling stock.

in my oppinion it was worth 150 but i managed to find a lot on ebay that had three or more times what you got for the same price i never took pics of what all i got and its too late now cause its all mixed together with my original collection

Why are the loco's junk?

Why are the loco's junk?

Because they are the Life-Like cheapy stuff that runs like crap and won't last long. And they look horrible to begin with. Even a old Athearn Blue Box GP38-2 for $20 would be a huge improvement, and a Proto 2000 GP38-2 for $50 would be a excellent choice.

Not to mention, the models arent always proto-typical.

Santa Fe #3500 is correct though
