I have a P2K gp30 that I added the high hood on. I got a SF used a while back but I needed a Phase I with the cab the same length on both sides and that's what N&W used . I bought a new shell and all the parts but the phase I does not have the D/B . The phase II SF low hood does I could not find a phase I with DB . It looks like that DB part is seperate does anyone know if it comes off ? I can't see it on the inside of the shell yet on the un-dec phase I it does seem to move .

This is just another project I'm working on. . I know later on P2k sold the high hood model but this was before that came out I used a high hood kit that was made and fits perfect .

I was just looking on Fallen Flags at some photo's of N&W GP30 high hoods then I was looking for a parts breakdown and came across an artical with photo's of someone building one using a cannon high hood kit and found out that since I used the one piece black plastic front range high hood which was made for older lionel and Bachman spectrum gp30 later same shell with roof rivets added , well looking at his build and the photo's of the proto-type on Fallen Flags I realized there is one main difference . The sloped /angled section on top of the cab roof that meets the high hood is not supposed to be even with the cab front like it is on the low nose GP30 but instead 14" back and mine is even because when I built mine I didn't have photo's to look at . I can fix it and it really shows once one see's the difference . I would have to cut the angled roof back 14" and build new parts to make it right. He used a cannon high hood which actually looks like a lot more work since the cannon hood is much taller than the GP30 highhood , he had to cut the cannon highhood down before installing the short hood roof and he did this like I did before the cab and walkways were glued on when it's easier. Basically if anyone wants to know or already does know the point of the V shaped slope on a low nose GP30 is even with the cab front on a high hood GP30 the point of the slope is 14" behind the cab front. Same angle slope and angle back. I guess back then when I made mine as others probably did and used the old Bachman shell theirs ended up just like mine. I saw a photo of the P2K GP30 HH phase one and they did it just like the real deal.

I made the old no roof rivet Lionel shell into a N&W low nose and detailed it highly since it was the only GP30 I could find at the time and mounted it on a athearn GP35 modified frame , got the idea and details out of a 1988 prototype modeler magazine in the very same magazine artical there was a Athearn HH GP38-2 in Southern so I did both and that's what got me started making HH's . Later I got a Bachman spectrum GP30 which was much better made it into a C&GW low nose and a fellow bought it and all the N&NW units I built including a N&W high hood athearn SD40-2 .
