Looking for some opinions. My 5-year old and I put together our new CN switching locomotive.
Hopefully it’s DCC ready and we can convert it to dcc plus sound soon. Probably a good idea to put a motor in it as well.
Its got awesome pulling power, custom weathering and kadee couplers.
Looks like a perfect locomotive for a 5YO. Don't have to worry about any detail parts falling off, or the dreaded trip to the floor!

When you get tired of the streamline look, you can whittle a road switcher out of it.

Is he a chip off the old block?
It gets my vote for best model locomotive of 2018!
It's interesting the things we do with our kids to get them interested in trains.
I found a used HO-scale Bachmann Thomas Spencer (Thomas stuff seems really expensive) and a few cars. It's the best performing locomotive I have. Anyhow, I got a few Thomas cars for it and the kids run Woodland Scenics people and livestock around the layout.
The wood blocks idea is awesome! Easily customizable and as mentioned, hard to break.

I ran over a wooden block with a 20,000 pound forklift today, and the block didn't break.
These are all great comments....put a smile on my face!
Hollow it out, and put it on a GP or F unit frame- your son will have a nice 'block cab' unit.
