A local shop has an IC (the black and white paint of the 1960s) GP40. It is fitted with the factory DCC decoder in it, and what I'm wondering is if it is something for me to consider further or pass on.
I'm saving up for a Digitraxx system (probably Super Chief, but am impatient enough to buy a Zephyr and get a hand-held throttle for club running), and didn't know if I would have any issues running this loco with the Digitraxx.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

Trey- Unless the engine is older than the NMRA DCC standards, all the decoders will work with the major DCC manufacturers systems, especially Digitrax.
Most likely, the engine will have DCC control and not sound. A sound chip can be added later if you decide you "need" one.
If you need sound now, pass on this engine and look for one with DCC and sound factory installed.
Hope this helps.

I run atlas,Digitrax,Soundtrax and NEC? decoders all on the club layout with Digitrax DCC and at home with my MRC. The only issues I have had so far is with the soundtraxx on the club layout.
You should be fine.

Thanks Mikey and Trent.
The paint scheme is a little before the era I am modeling (1978-current) but I like the way the Atlas engines run. I'm not afraid of repainting, but dislike that the number boards won't be completely right.
There's just so little IC and ICG compared to UP or BN or SF that it I find myself making do some of what I want to do.
