HO all the way!
I have only 1 car that has only 1 coupler that I got as part of a collection a few years ago. It has a knuckle coupler that operates just like a prototype does. The rod that becomes the air hose is pulled up fro the top by the ring on it and the knuckle opens. Who makes or made this style and where can I get more?? the car is all metal by the way, HO scale, and has no manufacturer name anywhere on it...

I think those were made by Tyco. I used to have about 100 of those. I threw them away about 10 years ago. They were oversized for 1/87th.

They aren't Tyco's. They were part of the MDC,(Roundhouse) line. They were included with just about every kit MDC made during the 1950's. When most of the manufacturers adopted the horn hooks as a standard coupler, MDC offered them separately for several more years. They could be uncoupled by pulling from the top or by the use of a solid ramp between the rails, that pushed up on the hose.

I have one set on a boxcar that my Dad made me back then. That car is in a display case and it has been packed up for years.

They are almost impossible to find, (down here at least,) except in estate sales, or an occasional train show.
