This is a small tank farm being built for a On30 layout set in the 1930's. Commercial parts are limited to the pedestrian doors and the windows, both of which are Grant Line parts. The tanks are "riveted" with the taller 12 dia tank having 8 full packages (800 total) of rivets individually applied. Buildings are individually applied weathered wood on Evergreen cores.
A few more photos of the progress as of today. Buidings are painted using Floquil with the brush dipped in the paint then thinner to give the faded paint look.
Very nice work so far. The rivets look very realistic and I love those little stars at the top of the building.

800 Rivets!?!?!
Congratulations, you have WAY more patience than me! Those tanks and buildings look awesome.
That is one totaly awesome build !!
Everything looks great so far. I'm thinking about making something like this on my layout. I've got a few questions.
How did you make the tanks?
Where did you get the rivets and stars?
sorry but i just had to ask. did you make the dentals from scratch? if not what are they.
Thanks for all the compliments. To answer a few of the questions, the rivets are Grant Line as are the "stars" which are actually HO star bolts used on prototype brick buildings to hold them together. The tanks are pieces of 3" PVC plumbing pipe capped off with .040 Evergreen, to make the panel look I used .010 x .030 Evergreen strip spaced out for 3'x6' panels. The two smaller tanks which are still white have the cap but no panels yet. The dentals are scratch, made them from scale 1x2's cut 3" long and spaced out 9"
Some more progress on the tank farm. Office building front is now sheathed in sheet metal "cut stone" panels to give that modern look to a going business. Oil loading rack piping is patterned after the D&RGW Chama oil loading facility. Pump house was built and now needs piping.
Some more progress on the tank farm. "Cracking tower" is nearly finished, last of the large tanks was completed, windows/doors installed in the office building. Tomorrow it is board fencing about the entire piece, ramps/straid on the warehouse and weathering on the structures.
Without been weathered it looks already awesome sir!!
Imagining taken pictures outside, in the sun...... It will be a spectacular view!
ALL those details! that is the power of On30

btw did you know about this person:

All you need is a work crew . Really looking good ! There use to be someone on here that modeled On30 seems to me he was selling alot of his stuff off at one time. He had some really cool stuff for sale that he had built?
Excellent work! Now I have some great pictures & ideas to make my own.
Tank farm just lacking the last bit of driveway, which is drying overnight so the piece will be ready to ship in the morning. All of the structures were made removable to allow the piece to be shipped across the country and arrive without damage. And yes those are cannon balls holding down the loading dock as it dries on the base.
The rest of todays photos including one with the base stripped right before the rest of the driveway was applied.
I Second Fred's , Love that old Nehi sign .
Very nice job as your completion point gets closer. I really like that fake cut stone look on the front of the office building. I sure hope everything arrives in one piece when you ship it.
Tank farm shipped out today, it was packed in 13 sperate boxes which were all then packed into a single large shipping carton.
