Noise From Loco?

Got an email from Athearn on Thursday. It didn't say whether he (Larry) observed the sound. Only said he cleaned grease off of trucks and it performed normally so they sent it back to me. I wonder if he's referring to the oil I put on the truck gears? I oiled them after the sound was present! Does this sound like a fix to that sound?

It's expected tomorrow so I'll update again after I test it out. I'm very impressed with how quickly they got it back to me once serviced . I hope it's squared away . What do you all think?

Think the proof of if its fixed is whether the noise comes back or not, a few hours running should confirm.

Sure. I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts on the described solution. I will update tomorrow. If it seems ok I may email Athearn to ask them to describe exactly what the problem was and how what they did fixed it.

Maybe couch the question something on the order of, so you can fix it yourself next time because you know they are very busy.

Well, so far so good! I'll write them an email tomorrow to see if I can get an understanding of exactly what the problem was and how it was fixed.

That's a dry bearing.
Remove the shell and put a drop of compatible oil on each motor bearing, and each worm bearing in each truck. Run the engine for a few minutes. It may make the noise again briefly until the oil migrates everywhere it needs to.

Might be an idea to chase it up in case it happens again, unlikely I know, but still........?
