I have an old Lionel "s" transformer. Can anyone help me get it wired to my track ( that's all I have at present.)
The easiest way is to use a Lionel Lock-On adapter. It just snaps into any straight track section and has spring clips to hold the power wires. They can be had from almost any dealer that carries Lionel parts for less than $5.
type "s" hookup-
Sorry, I wasn't clear- I have lock-ons etc. I don't know which of the 4 terminals goes where. That's where I need the help.
OK, I get it now. I'm not familiar with the Type S transformer specifically but most Lionel transformers had four binding posts, two of which went to the track lock on and two of which were used for accessories like lights. There should be a legend below the binding post saying something Like "To Track" and "To Acc". Hook up two wires from the track posts to the lock on.
If there are no legends to guide you, get out your multimeter. Check the binding posts with the speed control at zero. Two of the posts should show no voltage and two should show a constant 14-16 volts AC. Now advance the speed control halfway and check the two dead posts. They should now read 7-10 volts AC. Those are the post you would use to run wires to your lock on.
