Hi folks

I am new to this forum and in the process of building an HO layout. I've been considering ON30. I love the shays and have a question.

If I were to get a spectrum shay with sound what would I be able to do with that sound system with Bachmann's simple DCC system? Would I have control over the different sounds? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard, and to the hobby. All DCC systems follow same standards for controlling lights and sounds on decoder/sound equipped locomotives.

So yes, you can control many different sounds and light functions with the throttle on the DCC system. I don't have the Bachman system, so I don't know specifically, but usually you can control whistle, bell, etc., using the function keys on the throttle.

The Bachmann simple system for DCC will let you use the sounds but it will not let you program or adjust all the CV's to your liking. Look for a system with all programing functions.

From what I understand, the Bachmann system is very limited. I'm not sure about sound, but I'm pretty sure it can't change CVs.
