Hello everybody just thought I should introduce myself. I have been into trains since I was very young (my uncle got me kind of addicted to it:D) mainly N-scale. Right now I have an Arnold N scale 4-6-2 K.Bay.STS.B 3602 and an HO Mantua 2-6-6-2 Sierra Railroad #38 (Limited Production Run # 255) that was made in 1994.

I wanted to ask how much the Mantua is worth if anyone knows? I can not find anything on the internet except that it was a limited edition run in 1993-94. It has never been used, in original box that has absolutely no wear, and has certificates. Any info would be greatly appreciated:)

Well, that's a strange engine to start with. It appears that paint job stopped at the cab and the boiler is still brass? Maybe that was Mantua's attempt to make it look like Russian Iron? The colors don't really make sense either, since the Sierra Railroad always had black engines. This was a common model and I'm not sure what made it a a "limited run", since the paperwork doesn't indicate how many were made. I doubt this really has much collector value. The 1994 had a can motor and ran pretty well but the detailing was almost non-existent. Model Power took over Mantua in 2001 and bought out a very much improved 2-6-6-2, with better detailing, a better motor, better drive train, and they are DCC ready. These go for between $110 and $140. I doubt yours would be worth any more and may be worth much less. The only way to tell is list it on e-bay for a low starting bid and see what happens. If there are any colectors of this model out there, they will be all over it.

Check this out:

$169.98 new in the box. Looks more detailed than yours, so yours would probably sell for less.

Older equipment will go for anywhere from 40 to 60 cents on the dollar at swap meets. Dealers would likely give you less.

Any sentimental value or anything? Might do better hanging on to it.

BTW, welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the info!!

Here is my Arnold by the way:

Favorite engine I have ever owned:)

The Arnold engine is really a beautiful piece. From what i can find, it's also relatively rare and few pieces seem to come on the market. It looks like it's probably worth $600-$800 depending on how many collectors start bidding. This assuming you're looking to sell it, of course.

Oh no I could never sell the Arnold I like it way too much. It was a gift from my uncle a very long time ago and really got me interested in trains. After I got it I started hanging out and watching the UP engines pull loads in and out of the yard behind my house.:)
