If it is HO, it runs great. I have several Kato SD80 and SD90 models. They are great runners with good pulling power.
If you add a decoder to it, check that the motor contacts on the kato board are not too long, as they can cause a short. This was a manufacturer defect in the first run. If the motor contacts are too long, just bend them up or trim them a bit. A very easy fix.
