New HO Samples Inbound, Diesel Month

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Guys,

We’re three days into “Diesel Month”, thank you for the support so far.

We have a number of tooling based projects that we’re getting samples for over the two weeks.

Our side-frames for the Blomberg B/M and HTC trucks are confirmed to be completed and ready for the final production inspection. Both the truck details and Spartan cabs are also confirmed for shipment around the 15th from our supplier for production review. The only remaining mold after the side-frames and details for the truck release is the Truck POM. I do not have a good release date for this. Support now during this month will ensure though that we get the project out ASAP.

HTC

The traction motors are in hand and Evan is building up a number for shipments. He’s nailed the correct assembly procedure. The traction motors have been running exceptionally smooth and mechanically the project is sound.

I have done a casing and specification change on the tablets after reviewing some samples. We have a production version inbound; it might be here as early as Friday. The new tablet is based on the Elf 7 casing, we’re put numerous upgrades into the package including GPS, 2 GB DDR3, 32 GB HDD, on top of the Zigbee, WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth connectivity.

http://www.railflyermodel.com/collections/frontpage/products/7-android-4-tablet-pc

The tablet uses the latest Android 4.0.3 update. Support for the 2.4 GHz Zigbee Antenna and development tools are included.
Why the reason for the Zigbee tablet?

The platform is open source and enables you to control your locomotive with an application based on either the Zigbee or WiFi antenna. Existing Zigbee dongles are bulky and designed to fit into a notebook or desk top computer. Integrating the antenna not only makes this the first general purpose tablet with Zigbee, but it’s a tool that can be used for both home automation, takes the place of your cell, notebook, and other portable electronic media needs.

On the model railroad end, we’re developing applications for model control and we have our motor control product line that integrates the Zigbee network and is set up for battery powered operation.

What’s coming for model control?

We’re in the final stages of design for motor control modules that incorporate a Zigbee transceiver which will enable you to control your locomotive through a 2.4 GHz connection such as our 7” tablet or your home computer with a dongle. This method of transmission will enable you to remove the power from your track if you go with a battery module. Our truck kits require a new method for electronic control; we’ve teamed up with the motor supplier, and done in house design to provide this new solution. The best part is its scalable and integrated so we can offer complete layout control modules. All of this is off the shelf technology that is just put together in usable packages for the end user. The best part is all of your investment in open source products like out Tablet will fill all your home needs, not just your model railroad requirements.

As a final part of our “Diesel Month” promotion, each week several products will go on a special discount to reacquaint you with all the hard work we’ve done over the past six years. This week our air tanks and Salem filters will be discounted an additional 25%.

New Side Frame Modifications

Guys,

We reopened the mold for the side-frames to make the springs embedded into the side frame so scale detail can be added to the journals that keep the functioning suspension but increase the realism of the assembly.

The modificatin significantly increased our cost but the results will be worth it.

Thanks, please continue the "Diesel Month" support.

This week's updates

Guys,

Our first batch of 8 colors is complete; we will have all of the images posted after tomorrow within the new collection of paints seen here. At present, we have over 70 colors sequenced in batches of 8 for production at 2 week intervals. The paint is non-toxic, uses child proof 18 ml bottles, and is easily thinned with distilled water. This is a concentrate, a little goes a long way and its micro ground pigments are self leveling. The acrylic resin sprays like an enamel but has the ease of water clean-up.

Other colors are found here until the new list is completed.

The bottles are mixed by an artisan who is color matching based on color match, paint samples and images together for the best results.

Stan Sienicki has been at work on GP38-2 build. This really shows the kit concept with a combination of fine detail, robust construction, and the modular approach works. The end result is something you can take ownership of and no existing or upcoming RTR efforts can match the results so far.

Our initial shipment of Zigbee integrated tables is arriving before the weekend. I will post some images and a demo ASAP.

The first PCB for our locomotive is in production. The MCU based board is starting final design with the intention of wrapping up production next month.

Evan has been busy, 30 Traction Motors will ship this weekend. I have been working on wired Neutral White LED’s which are going out as well.

Our Li-PO Batteries and new speakers are inbound from our suppliers.

The DIESEL discount code this week will give you free shipping.

Thank you for the support, the products move when you give it.
