I have always enjoyed model railroading and I’ll continue to browse forums/videos/pictures so that I may live vicariously through other people in regards to model railroading. But, in any case I just don’t have the time or space for it. I would just hold onto this stuff but I refuse to put it in the attic as it would turn to glob of molten plastic.

The stuff that I have is a real hodge-podge from my uncle’s neighbor, my uncle, and me. I’d like to sell this stuff in lots for simplicity sake; perhaps something like buildings, scenery, and rolling stock. I also didn’t know if certain items may be worth anything for collectors like the Fleischmann Made in US Zone Germany train cars.

What do you think would be a good price to list the different lots for?

(HO Scale unless noted otherwise)

Scenery items, the bottles are unopened.

02.jpg

2 older KF powerpacks, 2 cheapy Bachmann controllers. I think one of the KF's does not work.

03.jpg

Scenery stuff.

04.jpg

New buildings except for the train passenger station that is partially built.

05.jpg

Misc. buildings, whistle diner in back.

Pile o' EZ track by bachmann

09.jpg

Bicentennial train, engine has a broken front lip, doesn't run. Bottoms of cars are mixed in with the other cars.

10.jpg

My only newer trains, both run well.

11.jpg

Some misc. pieces, 2 running 'toy' engines at bottom.

12.jpg

Mix of rolling stock the older stuff is mostly labeled "AHM made in Yugoslavia", the others are part of the Bachmann toy train lineup. None of the engines work.

13.jpg

Fleischmann Made in US Zone Germany passenger cars.

15.jpg

All cars, one set poorly repainted by my uncle to milwaukee road.

16.jpg

Mix of track some new, mostly older. Not suitable for mainline use but good for practice/dioramas.

17.jpg

Collection of magazine, most in poor shape from about 1990-1997 range, except for the book on the right which is kind of old.

18.jpg

Models that I'm sneaking in here, not HO scale.

07.jpg

O-scale buildings perhaps? Not sure, way bigger then HO. The toy people/horses stand taller then an HO engine.

Unfortunately, not much. :( The scenery material is worth about $25. The power packs are worth, at most, a few bucks for the lot. The scenery stuff with the tunnel portals, about $5-$10. The misc. buildings, maybe $5. The Building kits are all common but look like they are in good shape so maybe $5 each with the DPM kit worth more like $10. The Bachmann E-Z track is mostly steel so it might go for $20 including the turnouts. The Bicentennial stuff is worth basically nothing in that condition, a few bucks if you're lucky. The pair of Proto 1000 F units would go for about $25 to $40 depending on how bad someone wanted them. The junk in the next pitcture, basically worthless because of the condition. The rolling stock might get 50 cents a car and the non-working engines a buck. The Fleischmann passenger cars I don't know about but I'd be surprised if they have much if any collector value. The other passenger cars are worth maybe 50 cents to a buck each due to the poor condition. The box of track might get you $10-$15. Magazines are very common and almost never bring more than 50 cents a copy at a train show. I don't know about the plastic model kits but I suspect not much just due to the condition of the boxes. The O scale stuff appears to be mostly in pieces and in poor shape. It's all common Plasticville stuff on top of it. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for the lot and that's if the the boxes actually have the original kits inside.

As you can see, common trains set type items do not gain in value over time. Poor condition common items are wrth even less. If there are any train shows in your area, the best way to sell this mateorial is to rent a table and see what moves. The listing fees on e-bay would kill any chance you have for a profit.

Jim pegged it as for eBay, only way to sell it there and not get eaten alive with fees would be to list the entire bit and one lot, but then shipping would kill most buyers interest. Jim is right about your best bet being a small train show and renting a table, the larger shows I think the table fee would be a deal breaker.

Bah, sounds like a lot of work. I may put the buildings and newer trains together on here. Put the rest in a big lot on craigslist. Trash whatever doesn't sell.

I didn't expect a lot of money from it or anything. Just looking to clear out all my old stuff.

You could also look for a show and sale near you, it's surprising what sells at these.
Some hobby shops have consignment bins but of course take their share as well.
As Matt stated you'd get eaten alive with ebays fees for what little return you'd have.

Train Values.

Outklast.
I might be interested in the building kits.
I note that there are six of them.
Problem is, how do I arrange payment if we were to make a deal??? and how much for shipping??
Email me separately.

I have PayPal and can accept both instant and CC payments. I'm not ready to sell individual items right now.

I think I may just list these in the FS section in lots. I've had a few PM's with offers for a few cars but IMO it's not worth it to the buyer to only buy a few cars as once you factor in shipping they end up being $6-8/a piece. I'm not trying to swindle anyone here, these cars are older cars with plastic trucks, wheels, and couplers. They're not premium rolling stock by any stretch of the imagination and would need some TLC to run optimally.
