There are a few National Train Day events in Western Washington including the following;

PSMRE Layout at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma will be having a open running session where members will be bringing a variety of trains to run. There will also be a railroad photography exhibit in conjunction. The layout is a very highly detailed and accurate model of the railroads around Tacoma in the mid 50's. Most of the time the layout is running with period equipment, but now will be a good time to see the layout brought into the BN era (and BNSF too). I know I'll be putting some grain traffic across Stampede Pass.

OMRS layout under the heritage hall at the Thurston County fairgrounds in Lacey, WA will also be open and running. The line is representative of the double track mainline between Tacoma and Vancouver. The layout is double decked with helixes at either end. The nearby Centennial station will also be having a open house with refreshments and entertainment.

Didn't even know there was a national train day. Maybe that will mean that the NS will run two trains through town one of these days. :)
