Working with code 50 track. how far about do you put your nails?
I have only worked with code 100 in HO scale and it has pre-molded nail holes which have always worked well for me. Does code 50 have them? I have in the last century, read that every 12th tie is adequate for any scale. I think it was in RMC magazine.
Yes, Willie has it! On tangent (straight) track you could probably get away with cheating some and go upwards of 20 ties between spikes. On curves, stick with the 12 tie spacing, maybe even a little less depending on curve radius.......
I also put spikes wherever the rail moves when a train passes over, usually on a curve.
