My Quickie Diorama

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

In the process of removing a section of my layout, I had an idea for a quickie diorama. Here's what I came up with...

The worker's secret siesta is about to come to an abrupt end!

This shot demonstrates a couple of techniques I've tried lately to produce realistic rust. The first is the roof and power generator, which were treated with Instant Rust by Sophisticated Finishes. The second is Dr. Ben's Realistic Rust, which was used on the 50 gallon drums.

(I updated this post because I now have a permanent home for my photos.)

Thank you! This area just barely missed the wrecking ball, when I decided not to demolish all of my concrete base. The rundown building came from another area of the layout that had been demolished, and if I hadn't seen something in this little structure, it would have been relegated to the junk bin. It allowed me to try "Instant Rust" on the roof and the generator. The drums were rusted with Dr. Ben's Realistic Rust. :D
