Well like I mentioned in my intro post I'm looking into building my own "N" scale layout. I've been doing alot of research the past few days and I finally found a track plan that I want to model. I picked another book from Atlas called Nine N Scale railroads and the one I'm doing is called Unhinged and Horizontal. I talked to the expert at my local hobby shop and he's another train guru so he was able to help me out ALOT!!! I really learned so much from this veteran model railroader and I look forward to learning ALOT more from him and all of you veterans on this site. I've only been doing model railroading for about 5 years so I'm still kind of a rookie....lol

Here's a pic of the layout. I'm going to be doing a 38"x70" layout of this.

I bought about 90% of the track today. I'm going to be using Atlas's 30" flex track instead of a bunch of little 5" straight pieces.

I'm going to be customizing it alot because of power loss in certain areas. I also am deleting one of the sidetracks at the bottom of the layout because I want to add an intermodal track and I'm going to need room to do this.

Feel free to ask any questions. I can't wait to get this started.

I'm actually going to run double mainlines at the top and take out the connector track in the middle so there's not gonna be a reverse loop anymore.

That's what I was going to suggest. The Atlas plan is commonly used in N scale and I never understood why Atlas wanted to stick a new modeler with the complications of a reverse loop. It's an easy plan to double track and that crossing track in the middle serves no useful purpose.

Well as much as I wanted to start building my layout right now, I'm not gonna be able to. I finally got my wish and got called up to ENGINEER SCHOOL!!!! It's 4 phases with the first phase starting in McDonough, GA. I wish all of you the best and I'll be back on here as soon as I get time.

Good luck to all of you on all of your layouts!!

Brian.

I live about 15 minutes from McDonough and i can tell you from experience that the piedmont chapter of the NMRA is a bunch of super friendley guys. and once a month on a rotating basis a member will have an open house and invite people over to tour their layouts. I just found and joined this forum or i would have told you about the big open house event they had in november. I took my cub scout pack to see two layouts and in the process found myself designing a coffee table layout and one of my other cub leaders got bit by the bug too. I recomend checking out a shop in Riverdale ( about 20 minutes north east( kinda) of McDonough) called Riverdale Station. the owner is an n scale guy and has a couple of display layouts in the shop along with all the usual stuff and contact info for the NMRA
