My JTEX/Aurora & Portland aka wheeler1963 (Jerome) & MGWSY (Mark) collection

Alcomotive

Grandson of an ALCO Builder
I decided to do a small thread showing off some of my collections that I attained over the years from Jerome and Marks work of art. These guys were/are true crafstman of their trade. Mark unfortunately passed away at young age with terrible ailments that he fought for a long time back in 2017. Jerome to the best of my knowledge is still around but has dropped off the Model railroad scene for an unknown reason and has not been public for some time. Someday he may be back, one can only hope. He is a swell guy!

So I will start sharing some of the work these guys did over the years. Keep in mind these guys were doing these highly details way before the newly injection molds and other technology advancements such as 3D printers and the like. Mark's signature work was that he was a master electronics guy and metal worker. He would mill metal as he had a lathe and other fancy equipment. Just an eletronic genius. Jerome, he was just master of painting, kitbashing and wethering as well as placing the most subtle works of details on a locomotive. His work in my opion is/was top notch!

Each week I will will add a new Exhibit of their work so today I will post 2 units for the time being.

Enjoy and thanks for looking!

Exhibit A :

I will begin with showing off a GP 60 that was a Cotton Belt patched to become a Union Pacific.

This model started out as an Athearn Blue Box locomotive. It is flawless and runs like a Swiss watch!

Things to notice on this unit if you can find them:

  • utility doors
  • ditch lights
  • MU stands
  • ditch lights
  • antennae
  • A/C unit
  • weathering
  • lift rings
  • decals in various places
  • number boards
  • brass ladder and grab irons
  • MU cables
  • Air hoses
  • fuel spills
  • plow
  • PTC and cabling as well
  • spare knuckles
There are many more that I could point out but I will let the pictures show you.

Exhibit B:

Another Blue Box Athearn. EMD SD40-2

CNW patched for Union Pacific. All DCC and lights work. Mark unfortunately passed at this time and was unable to complete the ditch lights. This one may a rather modest unit but it is one of my favorites to run.

So for this weeks entry I will share a switcher that was done by these gents.

This started out as a Blue Box Athearn 1500 Switcher. All custom painted and detailed by Jerome then all the electrical done by Mark.

It is DCC as well. This one of 6 switchers that I had done up by these guys.

Enjoy the pictures and details. UPY 1121 patched over Southern Pacific per prototype at the time of the build. A fews after the build she got scrapped unfortunately.

Very nice stuff James! And yeah, I miss those guys too!
Now you know I’m going to butt in when you get to the A&P part of this thread, don’t you?
Heck… Karl might even get involved! 😉
