Just picked up a NS version of this train.
I have a few of the MTH ACe's.
First thing I noticed was that it has front and rear ditch lights, pretty cool.
(yeah, they are huge, but still cool.)
I had a question about the ditch light operation.
My Ace units ditch lights stay on when selected.
Whether in motion or not, they stay on if selected on.
With the M-2, they go off when in idle. As soon as you throttle up, they come back on again. Once your in idle they will go out after a few seconds.
I was just wondering if this was model specific to the M-2?
or
Is something wrong with my unit.
I will check mine tonite and let you know. I just bought the same one. I believe that my ditch lights go off at idle and on at throttle.

Great, please let me know!
BTW, what do you think of yours?
I was kinda happy with mine. Not as bright and bold as my BNSF or UP ones but my son wanted to model a NS coal train.
I have two. A NS and CSX . They both have the ditch lights off when at 0 throttle. Make sure your throttle is at 0. I have to laugh about what I think of it because there is a 20 page thread on this and I didn't want to start this over again. I love both of mine. Yes there are some prototypical errors in it but so what. Are you and your son having fun with it? That is all that matters anyway. I am running two together and they are pulling fine and running great. I am pulling 23 cars right now with no problems at all and that is including a 3% grade. By the way I am running MTH DCS system and a NCE pro cab DCC. The NCE system rocks.Glad I got rid of my DIgitrax.
Correction: I have a M-2 ( NS) and an ACE ( CSX) . Ditch lights on both are off at idle.

Does the CSX have rear ditch lights?
Strange that the BNSF lights do not go off at idle.
I was running both today and that was the difference I saw in both.
Now I wonder if there is something wrong with the BNSF?
I will have to put my UP on the track and check that one.
I wonder if it is something prototypical of the particular engine?
Yeah, that thread got out of hand.
My son and I enjoy all of them.
I will do some more testing and find out.
I would call MTH tech support or write them. I have had good luck with them answering my questions. I would check again tonight but I just got done installing and wiring 4 Tortise switch machines and I am done. Now I am sitting here with my friend Jack Daniels and relaxing.

I will try to test the engines again tomorrow.
Scoobydo,
My CSX ACE does not have rear ditch lights and the front ditch lights do not go off at "0" throttle.
My NS m-2 - has front and rear ditch lights and they do go off at idle. Hope that is what you needed to know.

Great! That is exactly how my engines are.
I guess the Ace's lights do not go off at 0 throttle and the M-2's do.
Good to know, Thank You for confirming.
