I am aware of that. Living in Montana, I grew up with relatives working on both the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road (family get togethers were fun). Each are so large, even modeling a small subdivision would be hard. The NP had a junction at Logan, MT. I chose this point to jump off and head south to Yellowstone Park. The town where I live used to be the end of a branch of the Mulwaukee Road. The milwaukee Road ended in Gallatin Gateway and a large hotel was built for passengers to stay overnight before taking stage coaches into Yellowstone. The Milwaukee pulled out around 1976 when a grain elevator burned at the end of the branch. I connect my freelanced road with Logan and Gallatin Gateway. I good friend had a foad that connected to my freelance and went south to West yellowstone and connected with the Union Pacific at that point. He unfortunately passed away. I still have some locomotives and rolling stoce from his "Gallatin Canyon & Western" which was partially owned by the NP. In my fictional railroad, the Logan Valley took over the GC&W, I only model the short line from Lpgan, MT to Gallatin Gateway, but do have staging tracks that commect to the Milwaukee Road and the GC&W. This allows me to model not only my railroad, but two of the biggies that operated in the northwest.
I disagree. I live 30 minutes from Logan Valley and I have always found that area very beautiful. Lots of trains down that way too. BTW the scenery in those photos is very nice. Not saying that it isn't, but I think that Logan Valley in PA is just as nice
